Caleb Williams has never looked more like the No. 1 pick

In a battle of quarterbacks taken with the overall number one pick Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams reached a new level in the team’s 35-16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in 2024 NFL Draft, set new career highs in single-game completion percentage (79.3%) and touchdowns (four), while throwing for 226 yards and rushing for 56. Williams’s quarterback rating of 88.2 was also his best single-game mark through the first six games of his career as his Bears defeated Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars in London.

Some of Williams’s throws were just as eye-popping as his stats, such as this dart to Keenan Allen for the Bears’ third score of the game.

Williams also showed off his skills as a runner, like on this 24-yard scramble in the second quarter.

After a slow start to the season, Williams’ game has steadily progressed. He threw for zero touchdowns in his first two games before throwing five in his last three, then nearly matched that total in one game Sunday.

And his hot streak has resulted in team success. Chicago has won three in a row and are now 4-2, keeping them competitive in a division in which all teams have a winning record.

The Bears will have a bye next week before a marquee matchup against the Washington Commanders on Oct. 27.

Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has outperformed Williams so far this season, but the gap has closed considerably the last few weeks. The game against Washington will also be Williams’s first opportunity for a signature win — every single one of the Bears’ wins so far this season have come against an opponent with only one win.

After Sunday’s game, Williams has now thrown for 1,317 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.
